SSG William E. Hasenflu, 38, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, born September 29, 1969, was
killed in action on September 28, 2008. After eight years in the Navy, Hasenflu
switched branches and was a Cavalry Scout with 101st Airborne Division. He first
served three tours in Iraq before deploying for Operation Enduring Freedom. His
unit was detaining militants when an Afghan police officer opened fire. Hasenflu
was hit by small arms fire after successfully pushing another soldier to safety. He
earned a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
