SSG Louis V. Kinney, 26, U.S. Army, born in Illinois September 7, 1918, was killed in action on April 2, 1945. In WWII, Kinney was a Platoon Leader with 132nd Infantry Regiment, Americal Division, and deployed to the Pacific. During the Battle for Cebu City, his unit got pinned down by machine guns while assaulting an enemy area. Knowing how dire the situation was, Kinney ran to get a clear shot at the enemy to save his men but was mortally wounded by Japanese small arms fire. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart.
