SPC Alex Gonzalez, 21, U.S. Army, born in Texas January 27, 1987, was killed in action on May 6, 2008. Gonzalez was a Combat Engineer with 43rd Combat Engineer Company, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, and deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom. While conducting a route-clearing mission in Mosul, his convoy was ambushed by insurgents. During the firefight, Gonzalez was mortally wounded by enemy small arms and RPG fire. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart with OLC, the Bronze Star, and has a street named in his honor. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
