SGT Wayne R. Cornell, 26, Nebraska Army National Guard, U.S. Army, born in
Nebraska August 3, 1980, was killed in action on March 20, 2007. Cornell first
served with the National Guard and deployed twice to Bosnia and then to
Afghanistan. Next, he joined the Army and deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom
with 1st Infantry Division. While on a patrol in Baghdad, Cornell passed away when
his vehicle was struck by an IED. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart, the
Bronze Star, and has a street named in his honor. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla,
