SGT James B. McLaughlin, 22, U.S. Army, born March 3, 1949, was killed in action
on April 16, 1971. In Vietnam, McLaughlin was an Infantry Operations & Intelligence
Specialist with 75th Infantry (Rangers), 101st Airborne Division. While on a combat
mission in the Ashau Valley, a large group of enemy troops attacked them, and a
firefight ensued. With the help of Cobra attack helicopters, they were triumphant,
but McLaughlin passed from small arms fire. He earned a Purple Heart, the Bronze
Star, and the Silver Star. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
