SGT Brian J. Leonhardt, 21, Indiana Army National Guard, born March 6, 1990, was killed in action on January 6, 2012. Leonhardt was a Combat Engineer with 713th Engineer Company, 81st Troop Command, and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While conducting a patrol in Kandahar Province, his vehicle was struck by an IED. Leonhardt and three of his brothers-in-arms did not survive the blast. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and was posthumously promoted to Sergeant. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
