PO3 Joel D. Velazquez, 24, U.S. Navy, born June 17, 1993, was overcome by his
demons on July 6, 2017. Velazquez was in Electronics Technicians, Submarine,
Navigation aboard the USS Providence (SSN-719). There, he maintained
navigation systems and equipment critical to detecting, identifying, and tracking
friendly and enemy maritime vessels. Velazquez was a snappy dresser with a great
sense of humor and a big heart. He truly cared for others and would go out of his
