PO2 John W. Charles, 31, U.S. Navy, born in Illinois April 6, 1956, passed away in a
car accident on December 27, 1987. Charles was an Aviation Machinist's Mate with
Attack Squadron 65 stationed aboard the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43). There, he
inspected, repaired, and maintained the Squadron's aircraft and ensured they
were always flight-worthy and combat-ready. Charles was the kind of man who
never met a stranger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spent as much time as
