In Memory OfPFC Thomas J. Bayes

November 1, 1948 - April 7, 1968

PFC Thomas J. Bayes, 19, U.S.M.C., born in New York November 1, 1948, was killed
in action on April 7, 1968. Bayes was a Rifleman with 2nd Battalion, 26th Marine
Regiment, 3rd Marine Regiment in Vietnam. In the Battle of Khe Sanh, his unit was
on patrol when they were pinned down by heavy enemy mortar and rocket attacks,
which lasted throughout the night. The next morning, as his platoon was
withdrawing from Hill 558, Bayes passed away after being hit by NVA small arms
fire. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Semper Fi, Marine! Til Valhalla,
