PFC Kyle C. Gilbert, 20, U.S. Army, born in Vermont January 16, 1983, was killed in
action on August 6, 2003. Gilbert served with 2nd Battalion, 325th Parachute
Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, and deployed to the Middle East for
Operation Iraqi Freedom. While on nighttime patrol, his unit was ambushed by an
enemy vehicle. Gilbert was helping to carry a wounded squadmate out of their
Humvee when he was shot by a sniper. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart
and has a bridge named in his honor in his hometown. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla,
