LCpl & Master Trooper James L. Lacks, 78, U.S.M.C., Virginia State Police, born
September 29, 1944, passed away on March 15, 2023. Lacks served as a Rifleman
with 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division in Vietnam. There, he
saw heavy combat as part of Operation Deckhouse Five, Operation Buffalo, and
areas around the DMZ. After the war, Lacks served his community with the Virginia
State Police for over 30 years and rose to the rank of Master Trooper. For his
service, he earned a Purple Heart. Semper Fi, Marine! Til Valhalla, Brother!
