LCpl Travis J. Layfield, 19, U.S.M.C., born in California May 26, 1984, was killed in
action on April 6, 2004. Layfield was a Radio Operator with 2nd Battalion, 4th
Marine Regiment, and deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom. During the Battle of
Ramadi, he volunteered for a combat patrol in Anbar Province. As his convoy
approached a marketplace, they were ambushed by insurgents and Layfield was
hit by enemy small arms fire. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and has a
scholarship program named in his honor. Semper Fi, Marine! Til Valhalla, Brother!
