FF Stephen P. Russell, 40, New York City Fire Department, born in New York May 19, 1961, died in the line of duty on September 11, 2001. Russell served as a Firefighter with FDNY's Engine 55. On the morning of 9/11, when the North Tower was hit, Russell and his men were among the first at the scene to start the rescue mission. They ran into the building and saved injured and trapped civilians but didn't make it out before the Tower collapsed. For his service, Russell was posthumously awarded the President's Medal of Valor.
