In Memory Of

CDR Dymphna P. A. M. Van Gorp, 84, U.S. Navy, born in Wisconsin September 2,
1910, passed away on June 6, 1995. Van Gorp opened many doors for women in
the service. In WWII, she was the first female Flight Nurse, aiding wounded troops
in the Pacific Theater. Next, she was sent to Brazil as an instructor for their Air
Force and developed their first flight nurse Aeromedical Evacuation Program. Her
actions continued to make waves when she became one of the first female
Commanders in the Navy. Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate! Til Valhalla,
Sister!
