1LT Joseph A. Silva, 23, U.S. Army, born in Vermont November 18, 1946, passed
away in a non-hostile incident on September 26, 1970. Silva was an Infantry Unit
Commander with 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division in
Vietnam. While on a mission, his unit was attacked from two bunker positions.
Silva left his cover and braved the guns to maneuver his men into positions and lay
down fire until the enemy troops retreated. He earned the Bronze Star, the Silver
Star, and has a street named in his honor. Rest easy, Soldier! Til Valhalla, Brother!
