T4 Anthony J. Fontaino Jr., 92, U.S. Army, born in New York December 26, 1922, passed away on December 30, 2014. Fontaino served as an Automotive Mechanic with 523rd Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company in the Pacific Theater in WWII. There, he was stationed in Luzon and maintained the vehicles needed to successfully liberate the Philippines. Fontaino truly loved his fellow service members and fought to change the name of Penny Beach in New York to Bueno Beach and establish a memorial to honor veterans of the 20th century.
