In Memory OfS/Sgt John H. Danneker

S/Sgt John H. Danneker, 19, U.S. Army Air Corps, born February 26, 1925, was killed in action on June 20, 1944. Danneker was a waist gunner with 565th Bombardment Squadron, 389th Bombardment Group (Heavy) in WWII. While on a mission to bomb a German oil refinery, his B-24J collided with another bomber and fell into the sea. Thought to be lost forever, the wreckage was found 80 years later off the coast of Denmark. Danneker was identified via DNA and now rests at Arlington National Cemetery. For his service, he earned the Purple Heart. Fly high, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
