In Memory OfSSG Walter E. Smith

SSG Walter E. Smith, 64, U.S. Army, born April 20, 1921, passed away on March 20, 1986. In WWII, Smith served with the 57th Signal Battalion under the 5th Army. Throughout the war, he played a critical role in establishing effective field communication systems. His unit’s ability to maintain radio services was a critical factor in defeating Axis forces in the North African Campaign, the Anzio Landings, and the Battle of the Bulge. Without the efforts of Smith and his men, an Allied victory would have been far from certain. Rest easy, Soldier! Til Valhalla, Brother!
