SSG Stevon A. Booker, 34, U.S. Army, born in Michigan September 16, 1968, was killed in action on April 5, 2003. Booker was a Tank Commander with 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment and deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom. While on a raid in Baghdad, his tank's machine guns malfunctioned, so he climbed on top of the tank and engaged the enemy with his rifle. For five miles, Booker fought off hostile forces until he was hit by small arms fire. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the Distinguished Service Cross. Rest easy, Hero!
