SPC Stephen J. Rutz, 36, U.S. Army, born July 30, 1988, lost the battle within on January 5, 2025. Rutz served as an Infantryman with 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division and deployed to Africa. While in Djibouti, his unit was part of the East Africa Response Force to maintain a continuous presence and ensure swift action against threats to U.S. personnel. Rutz is remembered for his outgoing nature, quick wit, and infectious smile. He was a loving great friend, a loving son, but above all, a fantastic father. Rest easy, Soldier! Til Valhalla, Brother!
