SPC Robert A. Swaney, 21, U.S. Army, born in Ohio on May 21, 1984, was killed in action on July 30, 2005. Swaney served as a Cannon Crewmember with Howitzer Battery, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While conducting a mounted patrol through the streets of Baghdad, he was manning the Humvee’s turret when a roadside bomb struck the vehicle. Swaney was mortally wounded in the blast. For his service, he was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
