SPC Richard S. Arriaga, 20, U.S. Army, born in Texas January 5, 1983, was killed in action on September 18, 2003. Arriaga served as a Fire Support Specialist with 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division in Iraq. While conducting combat operations along the Tigris River in Tikrit, a large insurgent force ambushed them. During the firefight, the Humvee he was driving was struck by a rocket, taking the lives of Arriaga and two fellow soldiers. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
