In Memory OfSP4 Richard Benavides Jr.

SP4 Richard Benavides Jr., 63, U.S. Army, born August 1, 1961, passed away from cancer on August 14, 2024. Richard answered the call at eighteen, enlisting in the Army and training as a 16E10 Hawk Fire Control Crew Member. He served on the forward edge of the Iron Curtain in Germany with C Battery, 3rd Battalion, 68th Air Defense Artillery, a critical role during the Cold War. After three years of honorable service, he returned to Dallas, his lifelong home, and dedicated over four decades to the U.S. Postal Service. Richard was known for his jokes, his sweet tooth, and a generous spirit, always ready to share a story or a piece of candy. He leaves behind three children, a grandson, and siblings, all of whom remember his constant, comforting presence. He found purpose in showing up, a quality he carried from his military service into every aspect of his life. Rest easy, Soldier! Til Valhalla, Brother!
