SMSgt Robert P. Butkus, 73, U.S. Air Force, born November 23, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2008. A man of quiet authority, Butkus served 28 years, logging nearly 12 years of foreign service. As a Still Photographic Technician and Photoprocessing Superintendent with the 15th Recon Technical Squadron under Strategic Air Command, he processed intelligence from SR-71 Blackbird missions, shaping national security during the Cold War. Later with the 354th Tactical Fighter Wing, he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was a devoted father and grandfather. Fly High, Airman! Til Valhalla, Brother!
