In Memory Of

Sgt Thomas C. Keown, 23, U.S.M.C., born in Indiana August 25, 1960, was killed in action on October 23, 1983. Keown was a Food Service Specialist with 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Amphibious Unit and deployed to Lebanon as part of a peace-keeping mission. While stationed at the Beirut Airport, a suicide bomber crashed a stakebed truck through the perimeter and detonated a 12,000-pound explosive. Keown and 240 of his brothers-in-arms perished in the blast. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Semper Fi, Marine! Til Valhalla, Brother!
