SGT Shawn M. Dunkin, 25, U.S. Army, born in Virginia February 27, 1981, was killed in action on February 19, 2007. Dunkin was a Cavalry Scout 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While on a patrol in Baghdad, his vehicle was struck by an IED. He and two brothers-in-arms were mortally wounded in the blast. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and a civilian medal for heroism after he rescued five people from drowning in a Michigan river. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
