SGT Roger W. Farewell, 20, U.S. Army, born in New York November 25, 1950, was
killed in action on July 3, 1971. Farewell was drafted into the Army and served as a
Light Weapons Infantryman with 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry
Division in the Vietnam War. While on a mission in the Long Khánh Province, his
unit was engaged by enemy forces. Farewell and one of his brothers-in-arms fell
on the battlefield after being hit by small arms fire. For his service, he earned a
Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
