In Memory OfSgt Joseph M. Hauer

May 24, 1945 - April 29, 2012

Sgt Joseph M. Hauer, 66, U.S.M.C., born May 24, 1945, passed away from dementia on April 29, 2012. Hauer was a Rifleman with 3rd Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment in Vietnam. While leading a team through the jungle, he saw NVA troops lying in wait. Hauer alerted his men to attack their position, and a fight erupted. He was badly injured by enemy machine gun fire, but stayed with his squad, directing air support for days until the NVA force retreated. For his service, Hauer earned a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with "V" device. Semper Fi, Marine! Til Valhalla, Brother!
