In Memory OfSGT Henry F. Smith

SGT Henry F. Smith, 23, U.S. Army, born April 15, 1942, was killed in action on November 17, 1965. In Vietnam, Smith was an Infantryman with 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). During the Battle of Ia Drang, his company was rushing to support another Cavalry unit that had been ambushed while trying to secure a landing zone. As Smith helped repel NVA forces and evacuate our wounded troops, he passed away when he was hit by small arms fire. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
