Sgt Arthur W. Erickson, 64, U.S. Army Air Corps, born April 28, 1920, passed away on September 21, 1984. In WWII, Erickson was a Heavy Automotive Equipment Operator with 1562nd Army Air Force Base Unit. While stationed on Biak Island, he maintained Sorido Airfield and ensured our aircraft had mission-critical supplies. On March 22, 1945, his courage shined through during an air raid when he was hit by enemy fire but continued to defend the base from the Japanese until the attack ended. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Fly high, Airman! Til Valhalla, Brother!
