Sergeant Thomas A. Staples, 46, Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), born September 26, 1972, lost the battle within on May 2, 2019. After serving four years in the Marine Corps, Staples began a career in law enforcement. For over two decades with the DCSO, he was a Patrolman, Field Training Officer, and Police Academy Instructor. Through his teachings, Staples gave rookie and seasoned deputies the skills needed to serve their community best. For his service, he was named "Top Instructor" in 2019. Semper Fi, Marine!
