S1c Walter A. Vojta, 20, U.S. Navy, born November 1, 1921, was killed in action on December 7, 1941. Vojta served aboard USS Arizona (BB-39), which was moored at Pearl Harbor. On that day, the Japanese launched a surprise aerial attack on the naval base. When an armor-piercing bomb struck the deck of his ship, it ignited the ammunition magazine below. The battleship sank in less than nine minutes, taking the lives of Vojta and 1,176 other service members. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Fair winds and following seas, Hero!
