In Memory OfPVT Robert F. Helveston

July 20, 1948 - February 4, 1967

PVT Robert F. Helveston, 18, U.S. Army, born July 20, 1948, was killed in action on February 4, 1967. Helveston was an Infantryman with 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 196th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam. After seizing villages the Viet Cong used as supply depots on the Cambodian border, his unit established an outpost. Shortly after, the VC launched a brutal mortar attack. Helveston and three fellow soldiers lost their lives in the devastating barrage. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
