Pvt Raymond A. Christianson, 18, U.S.M.C., born January 26, 1927, was killed in action on May 4, 1945. Christianson was with 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division and deployed to fight in the Pacific Theater of WWII. During the Battle of Okinawa, his unit was sent to neutralize enemy resistance at the Machinato Airfield and establish a foothold for deeper penetration into the island. While assaulting the Japanese position, Christianson fell when he was hit by enemy small arms fire. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Semper Fi, Marine! Til Valhalla, Brother!
