In Memory OfPvt Marvin C. Jones

Pvt Marvin C. Jones, 19, U.S.M.C., born in New York June 23 1949, was killed in action on November 4, 1968. In the Vietnam War, Jones served as a Rifleman with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. There, he was part of a unit that was frequently airlifted into enemy-held territory to conduct reconnaissance-in-force operations. While walking point on a patrol through a rice paddy in Quảng Nam, Jones was mortally wounded when he stepped on a booby-trapped explosive. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart.
