PVT Emmett L. Smith, 83, U.S. Army, born May 12, 1941, passed away on January 24, 2025. During the Cold War, Smith was an Armor Crewman with 1st Medium Tank Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment. While deployed to Germany, he maintained his unit's M60 tanks, ensuring they were ready for battle in the event the Soviet Union violated the Warsaw Pact and attacked U.S. and NATO forces.
