PVT Andrew J. Siwiec, 31, U.S. Army, born September 1, 1912, was killed in action on June 13, 1944. Siwiec served with 358th Infantry Regiment in WWII. Following the assault on Utah Beach, his unit helped secure a staging area and strategic positions further inland. While on a mission to eradicate any remaining enemy forces in Pont lâ Abbé, they came under attack. Siwiec was killed in the exchange, but his efforts greatly contributed to the successful capture of the town. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Rest easy, Hero!
