PO2 & SSG Matthew C. Novellino, 45, U.S.C.G., U.S. Army, born October 27, 1976,
passed away from COVID-19 on January 12, 2022. Novellino first served in the
U.S.C.G. as an Aviation Survival Technician. He then joined the Army attached to
19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and deployed to Afghanistan twice. Novellino
was so dedicated to his men that when he fell ill, he refused treatment so he could
keep helping his translators flee the Taliban takeover. For his service, he earned
two Bronze Stars, one with "V" device. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
