PO2 John P. Cramer Jr., 28, U.S. Navy, born in Japan June 22, 1960, was killed in a training accident April 19, 1989. Cramer served as a Gunner's Mate aboard the USS Iowa (BB-61), maintaining and operating the ship's various weapons. While conducting gunnery drills off the coast of Puerto Rico, one of the main turrets he was working on suddenly exploded. What caused the explosion has never been officially determined, Cramer and 46 of his fellow shipmates perished in the blast. Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate! Til Valhalla, Brother!
