PO2 Gerald K. Withrow Sr., 71, U.S. Navy, born in September 1, 1922, passed away on November 6, 1993. Withrow was a Motor Machinist's Mate in WWII. He was first aboard the USS Tallulah (AO-50) and was nearly sunk by Japanese torpedoes on his way to Guadalcanal, where he survived numerous enemy bombing attacks. Withrow was then part of Scouting Squadron 57, hunting Japanese submarines. Lastly, he maintained the engines of the USS Mount Olympus (AGC-8), the flagship of the 3rd Amphibious Force.
