In Memory Of

PO2 Clarence L. Smith, 52, U.S. Navy, born in Ohio July 10, 1923, passed away on
April 5, 1976. In WWII, Smith served as a Boatswain's Mate aboard the USS Shasta
(AE-6) and deployed in support of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. There, he
assisted in the first underway transfer of ammunition to ensure that our Marines
had everything they needed in order to eliminate enemy forces in the Battle for Iwo
Jima and the liberation of the Philippines to accelerate Japan's inevitable
surrender. Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate! Til Valhalla, Brother!
