PO1 John C. Castro, 73, U.S. Navy, born in the Philippines May 5, 1934, passed
away on August 12, 2007. Castro served as a Mess Management Specialist aboard
the destroyer escort USS Forster (DER-334) and then the USS Tang (SS-563)
submarine in Vietnam. He ensured our troops' stomachs were always full, and had
the energy to conduct their duties. Castro was a giving man and was a member of
several charity organizations. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and manning the
grill at family BBQs. Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate! Til Valhalla, Brother!
