PFC Vincent Helfer, 21, U.S. Army, born April 30, 1923, was killed in action on April 23, 1945. Helfer was part of a communication team with 184th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater of WWII. After participating in major campaigns in the Marshall Islands, Leyte, and Luzon, his unit took part in the Battle of Okinawa. During the fight, he was helping ensure that forward units could communicate with command when he was struck by enemy fire and passed away. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Rest easy, Hero!
