May 20, 1919 - June 8, 1944

PFC Roland M. Hibbitt, 25, U.S. Army, born in Texas on May 20, 1919, was killed in action on June 8, 1944. Hibbitt was a Paratrooper with 1st Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division during WWII. After the initial drop into Normandy, his unit was tasked with capturing the town of Carentan. While securing key positions, they came under heavy attack by German forces. During the fierce engagement, Hibbitt was hit by enemy fire and passed away. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
