January 19, 1920 - June 20, 1944

PFC Michael Gunnish, 24, U.S. Army, born Januray 19, 1920, was killed in action on June 20, 1944. In WWII, Gunnish served with 106th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division in the Pacific. During the Battle of Saipan, his company was sent to capture strategic positions on the island. As they moved inland, they were met by a barrage of fire from entrenched Japanese troops. Gunnish was killed in the assault, but his unit pushed through the wall of bullets and mortars and won the day. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
