PFC Marcus N. Brown, 20, U.S.M.C., born October 31, 1923, was declared MIA on November 20, 1943. Brown served as a Rifleman with 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment in the Pacific Theater of WWII. During the Battle of Tarawa, his unit was part of the landing on Red Beach 2. While attempting to reach the shore, his Higgins boat got stuck on a coral reef, forcing everyone to ditch. Brown, weighed down by over 50 lbs of gear in chest-deep rough seas, never made it to the beach. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Semper Fi, Marine! Til Valhalla, Brother!
