PFC James P. Nugent, 18, U.S. Army, born in New Jersey April 3, 1951, was killed in action on December 15, 1969. Nugent served as a Mechanical Maintenance Helper with 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Vietnam. While conducting a sweep through an old rubber plantation in Phước Long, his unit stumbled into an NVA bunker complex, and a brutal firefight ensued. Nugent was helping to clear the enemy positions when he was hit by shrapnel from an RPG. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
