In Memory OfPFC Hugh G. Strickland

PFC Hugh G. Strickland, 18, U.S.M.C., born March 25, 1924, was killed in action on October 9, 1942. Strickland was a Rifleman with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment in WWII. In the Battle of Guadalcanal, his unit launched an assault against enemy positions on the Matanikau River. During the attack, Strickland was killed by small arms fire. Although he fell in battle, his efforts were essential in driving Japanese forces from their fortifications and back into the jungle. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Semper Fi, Marine!
