PFC Douglas L. Cordo, 20, U.S. Army, born in New York July 18, 1991, was killed in action on August 19, 2011. Cordo was an Infantryman with 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While on patrol in the Zabul Province, he passed away when the vehicle he volunteered to drive was struck by an IED. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and has a highway named in his honor. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
