PFC Donald E. Eldridge, 23, U.S. Army, born in Indiana June 14, 1930, was killed in action on July 10, 1953. Eldridge served as a Field Artilleryman with 48th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division in the Korean War. During the ferocious Battle of Pork Chop Hill, he was assigned the role of Forward Artillery Observer. While providing crucial support for our troops against a large enemy assault, Eldridge fell on the battlefield when he was struck by North Korean fire. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart.
